1958 –

Since receives Honorable Mention at 46th Venice Biennial as the first Asian awardee in 1995, his award winning work, Waterfall, leads Senju to establish firm place as one of the celebrated Japanese painters. By incorporating the elements of ink wash painting and contemporary art into traditional Japanese painting, he develops his own approach by considering himself as part of nature rather than standing against it. His technique of dripping and emphasizing the texture of medium shows the harmony between innovativeness with Japanese aesthetic from time immemorial.
His creativity covers wide variety of projects including dedicating paintings on the sliding doors for the national treasure, Juko-in in Daitoku-ji temple, and working on the cross-industrial collaboration and public art. Opens Hiroshi Senju Museum Karuizawa in 2011. From 2007 to 2013, serves as president of Kyoto University of Art and Design and contributes to fostering of future generations.
